Recap: Embracing Change Table Talk
We’ve all been forced to embrace some sort of change this year. Some of it may have been expected, but the majority of it wasn’t…am I right? From virtual school to masked outings, change was present everywhere. The thing is, change is inevitable - and it can be uncomfortable.
That’s why we asked mom of four, blogger and real estate investor Katie Dortch to share her own story of unexpected change at our recent Table Talk. She reminded us of how some the “changes” we experience in our journey may feel like hardships at the time, but that those little events throughout our stories display the evidence of God’s handiwork.
Looking back on your life - can you see the fingerprints of God? Could He be at work now?
When we ask speakers to talk with us about meaningful things, we always ask them to leave tangible takeaways. Here are some ideas Katie shared for moms experiencing a season of change:
Delegate - ask for help!
House chores - don’t table this alone
Meal services - like Satori Meals (who sponsored this event!)
Grocery services
Tag team family responsibilities with your spouse or someone from your support system (if you don’t have a support system, consider creating one!)
Utilize workplace benefits (counselors, attorneys, mental health options, other IEP services - they take some of the burden off of you during a period of change)
Check in:
Spouses - With each other, reassess often
Children - Ask intentional questions and remember to give them space to process and talk
Together - Around the kitchen table - high and low of the day
Bosses - It’s OK to talk with your boss to ask for work accommodations during seasons of change. They’d likely rather support you than watch you walk out the door.
Community:
Find your people! You aren’t alone in this season of change - at least you don’t have to be.
Find someone who thrives with change and have them walk beside you.
Take Breaks:
Prioritize a date night every so often - locate a babysitter you trust.
Mommy time - leave space to care for yourself, even if it’s just a small amount of time.
Exercise
When seasons get rough, you can trust Him because in the midst of change, He remains the same. Because when we run on empty, He gives us rest. Because when we break, He makes us whole … and He does all of this because He is good and it brings HIM glory.
“The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.” - Psalms 23:1-6
Thanks for inspiring all of us, Katie! We can’t wait to see what’s next for you and The Inspiring Investment!
